Villa Regina

Surrounded by its imposing golden gate, Villa Regina is a charming residence that offers an authentic immersion in history.

This sumptuous neoclassical residence dating back to the early eighteenth century represents a milestone in European history and is one of the most famous historical residences embellishing the shores of Lake Como.

It was inhabited by Carlo II, King of Naples, and by the “fatal man” praised by Manzoni: the magnificent leader Napoleone Bonaparte, who lived in the elegant residence for a while with his wife Giuseppina. The bed in which Bonaparte slept is now the jewel in the crown of the villa's private collection.

It was at the behest of a Duke, the last aristocratic owner of Villa Regina, that the second floor of the villa was turned into a museum to house the precious historical artefacts and numerous collections of tapestries, paintings and ceramics of inestimable value.

The coat of arms of the duke’s family still stands out at the entrance to the Villa and the motto engraved on the main door “Villulae quietem”, “the quiet of a small villa”, suggests the intention of the former owners to make this residence a private Eden where one could spend moments of harmony and happiness.

It was the Dukes of Milan who gave the villa, their summer residence, the magnificent appearance it has today, adorning it with marble staircases, decorations and opulent stucco work by the best artists of the time.

Proof of this is the magnificent Sala degli Stucchi decorated with frescoes from Virgil’s Aeneid: the perfect location to celebrate, today as in the past, the ritual of gala dinners or to set up a private dinner in an evocative setting.

Outside, the aristocratic imprint of the duke family lingers in the beautiful Italian gardens with flowerbeds overlooking the lake.

The villa is divided between past and present, celebrating the splendour of its former illustrious guests and offering an exceptional location for tourists who want to visit Lake Como while staying in an ultra-luxurious residence.

The large, marble-decorated halls are complemented by the modern touch provided by the large heated outdoor swimming pool with spectacular mountain views.

Villa Regina can now accommodate up to 12 guests between June and September. Guests have at their disposal six elegant suites, complete with bathroom and sumptuous living area, and three finely furnished floors.

Each suite tells a story of its own: the furnishings of each suite are unique, from the exquisite floral embroidery of the Andrea suite to the precious gold highlights of the Amalia suite.

On the ground floor are the Antonietta suite, with its precious dark wood finishes and damask wallpaper, and the Baroque-style Gianvico suite with its elegant red satin upholstered armchairs and fine wooden floors. The deep red colours of the Nora suite are perfect for giving you the illusion of a romantic escape from the world: the room has the comfortable feel of a real personal hideaway. Finally, the Alberica suite with its antique wardrobes and numerous paintings offers you the enchantment of a doll’s house.

The large, ornate rooms are perfect for hosting gala dinners or private parties, and will instantly transport you back in time with a single glance at their elegant Renaissance style.
