Italy will be the main star at the Vancouver International Wine Festival

Italy will be part of the next Vancouver International Wine Festival, to be held from February 20th to 28th in the worldwide famous Canadian city.

Italy’s participation was nothing but expected since, as we stated in one of our previous articles on WeVillas, the country is still on top of the list in terms of wine production: in numbers, the 2015-16 harvest is expected to yield 50.37 million hectolitres.

The Vancouver International Wine Festival, defined as “one of the very best wine festivals in the world”, is at its 38th edition and basically has three mandates: to provide an informative, educational and entertaining wine experience for public and trade; to be a premier marketing opportunity for the wine industry and festival partners; and to raise funds for the Bard on the Beach Theatre Society.

The 2016 edition will include several wine seminars and close-ups completely dedicated to Italy - the main theme of the fair: main guests will be worldwide renowned wines, such as Amarone, Chianti, Roccato, Valpolicella, Cabernet, Spumante and many more.

A quick look at the main events include you may want to get a ticket for includes:

  • Tuscan Trailblazers, Feb. 24, 4 p.m., $125 — The Antinori family presents dual verticals of super Tuscan reds Tignanello and Guado Al Tasso.
  • 1,000 Years in Tuscany, Feb. 25, 5:15 p.m., $75 — Barone Francesco Ricasoli, 32nd Baron of Brolio, will hold a master class on Tuscany with wines dating back to 1997.
  • The Legends of Italy, Feb. 27, 5:15 p.m., $100 — a star-studded cast of wine luminaries. Expect stories Italian style and top-tier Barolo, Brunello, Amarone and Super Tuscans.
  • Chianti Classico Close-up, Feb. 26, 5:15 p.m., $65. — Looks into what makes Chianti Classico different, with a special look at the new ultra-premium Gran Selezione designation led by Sergio Zingarelli, President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico and owner of Rocca delle Macie.

“Italy (as festival theme country) will showcase its millennial traditions of wine and wine culture, which represent key elements of the Italian and the Mediterranean civilization,” said a very satisfied Massimiliano Iacchini, Consulate General of Italy in Vancouver.
