Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2014: international regatta from May 18 to 24

Great expectations for the races of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2014, scheduled for May 18 to 24, the second appointment after the Gaeta Maxi Regatta of the season of Maxi Yacht, the big racing boats that have a large number of fans all over the world.

This year, the Capri event, organized by the International Maxi Association in collaboration with the local Yacht Club, will present the big news of the TP52, regatta sailboats slightly shorter than the Maxi, which for the first time were invited to participate the race with a program specially designed for them.

The program of the Rolex Capri Sailing Week 2014 includes a long-distance race for Maxi from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 May, with a distance of about 250 or 300 miles south of Capri, which, weather permitting, should drag the boats to the Aeolian Islands, reviving the splendor of the famous Volcano Race. The TP52 played instead windward-leeward races, while from Thursday 22 to Saturday 24 the two fleets will race together but on different paths.

The awards ceremony, for both Maxi and TP52, is scheduled for Saturday, May 24. Among the participants, it is confirmed the presence of the Esimit Europa 2 yacht, Robertissima III and Jethou and, among the TP52, Azzurra Yacht Club Costa Smeralda, Vesper and Gladiator.

Over the years, the Rolex Capri Sailing Week has become a benchmark for the international movement of sailing. This event of May draws on the island not only professionals but also many hundreds of sailing enthusiasts, attracted both by the great charm of the competition that the titillating prospect of spending a short holiday in one of the most enchanting places in the Mediterranean Sea. Moreover, in the past, sailboat had proved to be an excellent vehicle for tourism in Capri. It is hoped that the weather will be favorable, but the period should be conducive to enjoy in peace the natural wonders of the island and the picturesque beaches of Marina Grande, Marina Piccola and the Blue Grotto.
