Best desserts in Italy and where to find them

December 12, 2016

Have you ever heard of Gambero Rosso? It is possibly the most famous Italian food and wine magazine, offering wine and food ratings of restaurants all over the country. Gambero Rosso is, in fact, a sort of Michelin guide for Italian (and not only Italian) foodlovers.

Recently, the experts of Gambero Rosso dedicated their work to identify the ten best bakeries in Italy where you can find the most delicious desserts. According to the guide, the sector is thriving in Italy since the country’s pastry chefs are “renowned as masters for their creativity, technique and ingredients” and that is why Gambero Rosso selected 18 bakeries that received over 90 points from its cake connoisseurs. All of these 18 bakeries earned the “Tre Torte” (“Three Cakes”) title, equivalent to the three Michelin stars.

All of the selected bakeries are renowned for their amazing desserts and represent the best one-stop-shop for foreign foodies visiting Italy.

According to Gambero Rosso, the best bakery in Italy is Pasticceria Veneto in Brescia, with 95 points. It is run by famous pastry chef and writer Iginio Massari, who is also one of the judges on the Italian version of TV show “Masterchef” and the coach of the Italian team for the annual “Pastry World Cup”.

But Pasticceria Veneto is not the only mouthwatering bakery you can find in Italy. The top ten we are about to publish represent the non plus ultra of Italian bakery and, therefore, we highly suggest you to stop by and taste some of their pastries.

As far as Gambero Rosso is concerned, the magazine handed out some special awards, such as the “Taste and Health” award to the Corsino bakery in Syracuse, Sicily, for its spectacular gluten-free selection of pastries, and “Newcomer of the Year” to La Pâtisserie des Rêves, a recently opened traditional French bakery in Milan, near its famous Duomo.

Here’s the top 18 of the best bakeries in Italy. Don’t forget to visit them during your holiday in the country. And if you’re looking for a place to stay, take a look at our fabulous selection of luxury villas and properties for rent throughout Italy.
