Famous throughout the world for its exceptional archaeological parkSelinunte has also eventually become a popular destination for tourists in search of natural and pristine beaches. What once was a thriving city of Greek origin, is now a holiday resort. Its beaches are equipped with every comfort, bathed by a crystal-clear sea you can hardly find anywhere else in Sicily. It is included in the territory of Castelvetrano, a town located south of Trapani.

The best beach of Selinunte is probably the Pineta, surrounded by the beautiful nature reserve of Belice river. The beach is located on the far western tip of the town and you can access it through a staircase that gives you a beautiful view on the clear and pristine coast, which is made of golden sand. The Pineta stretches for over 5 km to Porto Palo and is equipped with all common bathing facilities. There are of course typical restaurants where you can taste the delicious Mediterranean products, sitting right by the seashore.

No less appealing is the Zabbara, located on the opposite tip of Selinunte. It is the only local beach where you can swim topped by the Acropolis hill, the most impressive part of this archaeological park. Even the Zabbara has beaches fully equipped, complete with deckchairs, sunshades, pedalos and canoes, shower service and restaurants serving fresh fish dishes. Under the shoreline of this beach, you can still see the old slabs forming the glorious ancient port of Selinunte, now submerged for centuries.

Third option is the Scalo di Bruca al Porto, a very popular beach thanks to its location at the center of Marinella di Selinunte, close to the two marinas. Being the easiest to reach is also the most crowded and active one. The beach is divided in two by the marina and it allows you to practice many water sports: the left side is in fact usually devoted to recreational activities and sports, such as beach volleyball, beach soccer and sailboat racing, while the right side is much more suitable for families with children looking for relax.

If all of this is still not enough, just 2 km away from the beach of Selinunte is located the Triscina village, which is the most popular destination for thousands of tourists thanks to its 6 km of fine and golden sandy beaches. On the coast of Triscina tourist and commercial activities alternates to large, pristine tracts where the sand is shaped exclusively by the wind, creating characteristic dunes that resemble the landscape of the North African villages. This still virgin territory is a favorite destination for many scuba divers.

To reach Selinunte by car, you shall take the Castelvetrano exit off the A29 Palermo-Mazara del Vallo highway, following the signs to the village after that. Selinunte is also not very far from the Trapani’s airport.
