Guide to the theme of Expo 2015: 'Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life'

November 7, 2014

The Universal Exposition to be held in Milan in 2015 will have the theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life". The Expo 2015 will revolve around the issue of food, not just for the human population but also for the Earth, serving as in instrument of dialogue and consideration about this important topic.

First, it will be promoted the right to a healthy, safe and sufficient nutrition, in order to defy hunger and thirst that are still affecting the world, as well as to combat infant mortality and malnutrition as causes of death for 850 million of people on the planet. The aim is also to eradicate famine and pandemics, but at the same time to prevent the new diseases that afflict rich countries, such as obesity and cardiovascular diseases, by educating both adults and children in having a healthy diet.

The theme is developed looking at the early stages of the production process, promoting an efficient exploitation of the available resources and the application of good practices in agriculture, livestock farming and fishery.

As we said, the title of the theme focuses on not only the nourishment of man, but also the one of the planet where he lives, which itself represents an element of nutrition to him and his main source of livelihood.

Food, water, nature and food safety are the cornerstones around which the Expo Milano 2015’s debate will revolve. This debate will involve both participants and visitors and it will be carried out day after day through events, exhibitions, conferences and meetings.

The entire exhibition is strictly inspired by this theme, including the set design and architecture of the various pavilions. The theme "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life" is also shown in the thematic areas, namely those five areas in which the exhibition depicts said theme in its various facets, creating a common thread among the scientific, cultural and recreational activities available.

The Expo 2015 in Milan will be traditional yet innovative, as far as the development of the theme is concerned, involving the visitors on every possible level and making their participation to the event a unique experience. The concept of feeding will therefore be explored in every sense, not only with regard to purely nutritional aspects, but also with regard to the historical-cultural and ethno-social ones.
