XXV Eggplant Festival in Santa Marina di Milazzo in August 2013

July 9, 2013

The second weekend of August 2013 will be back in Santa Marina di Milazzo (ME), the XXV edition of the tradition Eggplant Festival, which leads to the streets the best Sicilian dishes made with this excellent vegetable. As every year from 1988 until today, Piazza Pozzo in Santa Marina, district of Milazzo in Messina province, will host many tastings of dishes based on eggplant, framed by live music and traditional songs.

Inside the event, during which there are samples of sandwiches with eggplant pickled in oil and pasta with eggplant sauce, there will also be a competition dedicated to farmers "La Melanzana d'oro (The Golden Eggplant)" and the National Festival of Folklore, which provides for the parade and performances by folk groups through the city streets.

Santa Marina, home of the annual Eggplant Festival, is a city in the province of Messina belonging to the town of Milazzo. The etymology of the name of the city is due to the presence of the parish church of Santa Marina Virgin of Bithynia, built in 1646.

The Eggplant Festival, which for the XXV edition will be held in Piazza Pozzo on 10 and 11 August 2013, is just one of many events that enliven Santa Marina di Milazzo during the year, but it is undoubtedly one of the most beloved by locals and tourists who are visiting Sicily.
