- Villa Acqua Dolce
Description
For people who value elegance and discretion, natural beauty and a timeless setting in a typical lake atmosphere, the luxurious Villa Acqua Dolce surely is an outstanding choice.
The property is located at the foot of the Resegone and Grigna mountains, in the gorgeous setting of Lake Annone, in a natural basin bordered by the Lecco highlands. A Manor House, the stable with the glasshouse, the park, and the swimming pool are all part of a sizable complex that elegantly blends into its natural surroundings. Composed of ten large bedrooms and nine bathrooms, this three-story house can accommodate up to nineteen people.
Generally closed to the public, the mansion is still used as a precious countryside retreat by its owners. Villa Acqua Dolce is only available for rent for carefully selected guests and only for a few weeks per year: a perfect choice for an unforgettable experience in one of the few villas in the Lake Como area immediately on the lake.
With only a sizable, well-kept grass separating it from the lake, the villa is a unique example of charming nineteenth-century architecture. The guests’ privacy is protected by the large park, covered with vegetation and century-old plants. As a result, the complex displays a fantastic aesthetics, with intriguing scenes around every corner, accentuated by lovely natural light throughout the year.
A long avenue takes you from the front gates to the mansion, whose classic yet peculiar architecture and linear façade are enhanced by the surrounding park’s lush greenery.
Villa Acqua Dolce’s interior design is a stunning maze of interconnected rooms dominated by views of the lake on one side and, on the other, by views of the park. The chromatic atmosphere is a dreamlike immersion in blue and green hues.
Maximum attention to detail is paid to the furniture of every room. The dining room, connected to the large traditional kitchen on the ground floor, and the succeeding large living room feature expansive windows that provide a full view of the lake and the breathtaking surroundings. The living area opens to the boiserie and includes a magnificent antique fireplace from the seventeenth century. A wooden staircase leading to the bedrooms, each of which is furnished with custom-made fixtures, is used to access the upper stories. A fully furnished playroom with a ping pong table, foosball, and a pool table is located on the top floor.
The outdoor area surrounding the property is just as fascinating. A single cypress tree gives the villa a distinctive appearance when observed from the lake. In addition, a tiny dock is located next to the main façade that faces the waters, enhancing the house's overall charm.
The large rectangular pool (23x8 meters) is entirely built of large wedges of quartzite: at night, magnificent colors and silvery reflections are projected onto the water thanks to clever lighting. A Jacuzzi pool with its own small waterfall is located next to the swimming pool and is easily accessible through a smooth staircase. While there are changing rooms and a service area near the pool, outdoor showers are right on the other side of the stone wall.
A driveway that cuts through the park will take you from the main house to the two-story and recently rebuilt stable. A fully equipped kitchen with a large wood oven and a gorgeous chimney that illuminates the entire space can be found on the ground level. The villa's original wooden beams and big windows - that look out onto a stunning lake vista - highlight the spacious area on the first floor. The building also features a sizable open space covered by a large tent and displaying a quartzite stone floor.
Another small space that leads to the private and lovely rose garden is the greenhouse.
The park surrounding Villa Acqua Dolce is a spectacle in itself. A gem of Italian botanic splendor whose extraordinary beauty allowed the property to join the FAI (Italian Environmental Foundation) Spring Event, this over-six-hectare-sized park is incredibly alluring as a natural stage for any kind of event. Meticulously restored to its ancient grandeur, it showcases a wide variety of trees such as oaks, magnolias, cedars of Lebanon, beeches, taxodium, figs, apple and pear trees. Thanks to constant and diligent care, the park is a spectacular, color-changing microcosm in every season, and especially in spring and fall.
Some of the its corners are particularly stunning, such as the pond surrounded by weeping willows and a thicket and a fifty-year-old rose garden that, every May, bursts into a rosebush of a thousand vividly colored flowers. An orchard and a tunnel of climbing roses in front of the greenhouse make the ideal backdrop for photo shoots. You will also love the little pebble beach at the lake's borders: a dreamy place to unwind, relax and take in the stunning scenery.
